beautiful country park and Georgian hall. At Christmas, Haigh Hall plays
host to Santa in his grotto and traditional Christmas Fayre is served in the
Hall and cafeteria. Walk through the plantations or along the canal, both of
which are bound to be pretty, crisp and frosty white at this time of year.

- Ordsall Hall Museum, leave
behind the hustle and bustle of 21st century urban living and step back in
time. The Hall dates back over 600 years and is packed with intrigue,
history and conspiracies. The home of the Royalist Radclyffe family features
the Great Hall, Star Chamber, Tudor Kitchen and resident ghosts! Legend even
has it that Guy Fawkes plotted to blow up the Houses of Parliament under
Ordsall’s roof.

Salford Watersports
Centre, offers a variety of activity
programmes ranging from rowing canoeing, sailing and windsurfing. For more
land-based activity there are orienteering sessions and an indoor climbing
wall, all with specialist instruction as required.

Imperial War Museum North, was
designed by Daniel Libeskind to resemble three shards of a shattered globe.
Thousands of objects from a tank to a teddy bear sit alongside a dynamic
audio visual presentation – “the Big Picture” – shown every hour. Pioneering
display techniques portray our experience of conflicts throughout the 20th
century to reflect on how people’s lives are shaped by the war.

Bolton Town Hall, was
officially opened in 1873 by the Prince and Princess of Wales. Tours include
The Mayor’s Parlour, Council Chambers, The Albert Halls and the sacrosanct,
Banqueting Halls, only ever seen on a group tour! Admission for groups is
free. Allocate 1-1fi hrs per visit and there is coach parking available at
Mill Hill Coach Park.

Smithills Hall,
is one of the jewels in Bolton’s historic
crown. The house reveals the changes in fashion and living conditions from
14th to 19th century. Smithills Hall is open Tuesday to Sunday, April to
October and there is an admission charge for groups. It is advised that 2
hours is allocated per visit and there is dedicated parking space for 6
coaches.

Ye Olde
Man & Scythe Inn, is the fourth
oldest public house in England dating back to 1251. The visit, includes
refreshments, a 30-minute talk and 10-minute tour of the building. Take care
to not disturb the ghost of 7th Earl of Derby who was beheaded at the pub on
15 October 1651! Open all year round and there is an admission charge for
groups. Allocate 1-2 hours per visit (dependent on group size).
